It may be Wednesday, but I am finished with my school week! For the first time in three months, I am going to spend the weekend in Nairobi. There has been violence in some areas of the country in the last week or so, but we hear from missionaries in Nairobi that things are fairly calm there.
I am going in with a family from here who have a court date regarding their adoption of a Kenyan baby. Please pray that the proceedings go well and they make progress in the adoption process.
I am VERY excited to get to go into the city--I have only been in once since my arrival in August--but I am almost as excited that we are FLYING in, which I have never done. All the perks of the city without the horrendous bumpy, four-hour ride there and back. The only drawback is that we will be limited in how much we can bring back and I am running low on pretty much everything.
Thankfully, I have another trip scheduled, when I go into the city to fly out of the country in a few weeks. (As of right now, I am still planning on spending a week in Athens in mid-February for visa issues. We’ll hear early next week about my work permit, but I am not expecting anything.) So I’ll be able to get more groceries and supplies on my way back then.
We will also be staying at my favorite guesthouse in Nairobi. It’s not just the fresh, warm doughnuts in the office early every morning and the gorgeous garden--they also have high speed internet! I have a list of things to download and upgrade while I am in town and am looking forward to that very much. So I will be sure to post new pictures--such as pics from the plane--over the weekend while I have the good connection.
We leave tomorrow morning and will fly back Saturday morning.
As always, please pray for traveling mercies for us. From all that we hear, we don’t expect any trouble, but the extra prayers won’t hurt at all. And pray for the areas that are affected by the violence and the negotiations that are going on this week.
Please also pray for the AGC Baby Center, which is a few hours from here. They have been having trouble getting supplies, and with 30 babies, you run out of those fairly quickly. They have also had some threats against the Center. Please pray for continued safety for them.
I will post again when I get back. Have a great weekend.
UPDATE: I am in Nairobi--I wrote this post, but couldn’t get through to post it while I was at Tenwek. Things are calm here in the city. The flight yesterday was nice, except for the part when I vomited on myself. I think I’ll take dramamine on the way back. :) Thankfully, I had a a change of clothes when we landed and was able clean up a bit in the airport bathroom.
And, not only does the guesthouse good internet and fresh doughnuts in the morning, but it also has laundry facilities. In fact, most of the time, I bring most of my clothes in with me so I can dry them in a dryer and get them back to their original shape. I wasn’t planning on doing any laundry this time around, but I had to change my plans a bit.
I do have some nice shots from the plane, but they will have to wait--I left my USB cord for the camera back home. I’ll post pics when I get back.
We spent yesterday afternoon at Sarit Center, a shopping center. I got my hair cut and got to shop around for a while, which was nice. All in all, very relaxing. Today, while the family is in court, I have hired a driver to take me around to a few places I need to go while in town. It will be nice to be on my own for once. (Well, on my own with Patrick, the driver.)
So please pray for the Bemms as they have their court date today about the adoption of their daughter. This is the first of several court appearances, so they need this one to go well.
Also pray for the latest developments in Kenya. We heard yesterday about the death of another politician, but it turned out not to be political--he was part of a love triangle, of all things. So who knows what the response will be.
I will try to post again tonight.
"Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can." -John Wesley
"the plane ride was nice except when I vomited on myself" I laughed out
loud. Then I felt bad. Poor Lisette. Glad your travels are treating you
well and your politicians are scandalous. Can't wait to hear about Athens!
I love you.
