Rain, Rain, Don't go away

posted Saturday, 22 December 2007

The internet at Tenwek is so slow today that Skype is not even picking up that  I have a connection
It looks like another big storm is coming--that will be our third in the last three days. Thursday, three people were struck and killed by lightining in a nearby village. It was really bad.
We get lots of rain in this part of Kenya, but these are the worst storms I have seen since I've been here. It's good in a way, though--it's been really dry here. The river has been so low that they have had to switch on the generator several times--there wasn't enough power from the hydroelectric plant (at the waterfalls, near Tenwek Hospital.)
So it's good that the rain is coming, just not all the thunder and lightning.
I am working on making my Christmas presents for everyone around the compound--biscotti. I liked it so much the first time I made it, I decided to make some more. I made a batch of gingerbread biscotti this morning and a batch of brownie biscotti is in the oven.
Tonight is our big Christmas get-together with everyone from the compound. I am fixing pumpkin dip for that--yum!. Jennifer made some gingerbread cookies earlier this week to go with that.
A bunch of us are going tomorrow afternoon to the Bomet prison to fix a meal and take some things to the prisoners--mattresses and blankets, mostly, I think. Should be interesting. I am not even sure where the prison is.
So that's the news around here--I hope that all went well last night at the Live Nativity at Trinity UMC. I wish I could have been there. I can't wait to do
it next year!   - Lisette
