Elections

posted Saturday, 29 December 2007

So the elections have not gone off as peacefully as planned. They still have not announced the results from Thursday's presidential election and there are riots in a number of areas, specifically in Nairobi. Things are quiet here, but the American Embassy has warned all American travelers in Nairobi to stay in their houses until further notice. (No one here expects any problems--this is traditionally a pretty calm area.)

The opposition party (ODM) has announced victory, but the incumbent president is waiting on the official results, which are being delayed for some reason. (That is one of the reasons people are rioting--they are demanding that the results be released.)

Please pray for all the people traveling today and all the people in Nairobi, especially in the Kibera slum, where much of the rioting is occurring.

Read more about it here.
